How to Start an Interior Design Blog Successfully

This is a complete guide on how to start an Interior Design blog the right and successful way. Starting an interior design blog can be a very fun and rewarding journey.

One of the greatest things about blogging is that you can work from anywhere worldwide, spend time with close ones and still provide value to your audience. Usually, blogging started as a hobby for most people, but you can be surprised at the opportunities you might get. 👀

How to start an interior design blog

Starting an interior design blog is much easier than most people think. Thankfully, technology today allows us to start a blog without any coding skills required. The only thing you need to have is a small investment that can be worth later.

    1. Passion about Home Design

If you are genuinely passionate about home interior design your visitors can notice that. This is really important because when you are passionate about something you will make an effort to be consistent with it, and when you first start a blog you need to know your why.

You will open your mind and when you are blogging about interior design you will increase your knowledge and you will find new and creative ways that you never thought were possible.

In the interior design niche, there are a lot of ways to make money and to write blog posts about.

It is worth to note that blogging is all about patience if you don’t have access to traffic instantly (Youtube, Email list, Social Media following). Sometimes it can take some time to get visitors in, but once you build enough authority, you can be surprised by people loving your blog. The benefits of blogging are timeless.

What blog content you need to post?

You have a lot of categories to choose on what to write on. Some of the categories are furniture, color, accessories, home finishes, etc.

Some of the best things you can write content on are solving a problem, calming readers’ fears, help them with their homes and make sure you entertain them.

Most of the times people search online because they have a problem and need a solution. Usually, homeowners have always questions about the design and decorating their homes.

People love to read tutorials and learning about topics. You can help them learn how to accessorize their new place with a simple tutorial. Make sure you have fun with your blog, don’t make it boring and share cool content.

Let’s start with creating the blog.

Disclosure: Please note that some of the links are affiliate links and at no additional cost to you, I’ll earn a commission. When you purchase hosting using my affiliate links, they compensate me, which helps make this guide free of charge to you and ensuring you to get the best possible deal. I only recommend services that I’ve personally used and stand behind.

    2. Starting an Interior Design Blog successfully

I advise all my readers to avoid using free hostings and free platforms like weebly.com or blogpost.com. Yeah, they are free to use, but the negatives are much bigger than the positives.

I don’t like the fact that you cannot build trust with your readers, your blog will have a subdomain and will be looking like interiordesignblog.weebly.com, it is pretty long and will not be remembered.

You will not have full control as well, your blog will be full of ads and it can be easily shut down by these platforms.

The best way of starting an interior design blog is with your own domain and hosting.

The first thing is that you gonna need to have a name in mind, and this may be tricky to get a good name, but go with something easy and catchy for remembering. This way any visitors can just type it on the address bar to visit your blog.

It is the best to go with a .com domain name, you can use your name maybe and add blog next to it. This depends if you want to build a personal brand about interior design blogging. Choosing a .com is the best way and 75% of the websites online use it as their extension. Follow the steps to get a free domain. 😎

    Getting the Domain and Hosting

Usually, the domain name could cost up to $18 per year, while hosting can cost up to $10 per month. This can be a lot of money for minimalists and people in certain countries in this world, that’s why I have a very special deal for you.

Getting a good web hosting that has phenomenal uptime and loading speed is crucial to be successful. You don’t want to have a website that is slow and down most of the time of the day, no traffic no profits. There’ve been studies done that usually if a website takes 3 seconds to load, visitors leave. That’s why it is important to start with the right web hosting from the start.

For as little as $2.95 per month, you get a FREE domain name for one year, FREE SSL certificate that protects your visitor data, amazing security features with 24/7 customer support and with 60% OFF on hosting. This is a deal that you don’t want to miss.

I recommend changing the website permalinks. Head over to Settings -> Permalinks.

    permalinks

You should change the permalinks to the Post name. It is really good so your blog can be user-friendly. The URLs will be much shorter and better for users and search engines overall.

One example could be domain.com/interior-post is better than domain.com/2025/01/01/interior-post.

    4. Install Theme

When you install a good WordPress theme is an easy way to make your blog more attractive for the users. Going with some simple theme that is not heavily coded will ensure faster-loading speed for your blog.

There are two ways to get a WordPress theme, free and paid. Head over to Appearance -> Themes -> Add New. You can select to search for the most popular themes and choose one for your blog.

All of the themes are free to install, but some of them have PRO versions, and if you love a specific theme you can always upgrade it to the PRO version to unlock all features.

Another way to get a unique theme is by buying one. I highly recommend using StudioPress themes. They are super lightweight and they are always updated regularly from developers.

If you decide to go with the PRO option, it would cost you around $25-250 for a PRO theme.  They are user-friendly and easy to work for optimization.

The next step is installing a few plugins.

    5. Install Plugins

On the left side of the dashboard point at Plugins then click Add New.

Installing the plugins below will ensure your blog to perform better for the search engines and for your readers. The plugins are lightweight and will improve loading speed.

    • Yoast SEO: Really powerful plugin when it comes to On-Page SEO optimization, can create a sitemap.xml for Google Search Console as well.
    • WP Fastest Cache: Awesome plugin that can clear all cache and minify CSS/JS aswell. You can connect with Cloudflare or any other CDN provider really easily.
    • Social Pug: This plugin allows your visitors to share your blog posts on their favorite social media.
    • Block Bad Queries (BBQ): Plugin that protects your website from malware.
