1. How to start a Tech Blog with a good name

You need to have a domain name that is catchy and easy to remember. This is crucial if you want to have a domain that can get the best results on Google and providing trust for your visitors.

Having an easy name for remembering can help a lot because your visitors can always come back and read more for the latest updates on technology.

2. Starting a Tech Blog with a Plan

take notes

Often overlooked by a lot of bloggers, you need to create a plan and stick with it. There are a ton of blogs that are just left without content on them.

How to become a tech blogger by better planning:

  • Where I’m gonna host my website?
  • What WordPress I’m gonna use?
  • How many times I’m gonna post per week?
  • Should I connect Social Media?
  • Where I would get a logo?

Luckily for you, I can help you with all of the above questions. You need to follow the steps on how to start a tech blog properly.

3. Where to host my tech blog?

Free platforms exist like wordpress.com, tumblr.com or blogger.com that allows you to create a blog under their platform.

I don’t recommend this to my readers because I want them to build high authority blogs that they will have complete control over them.

If you decide to go with blogger.com, your blog name could look something like technews.blogger.com. There will be a ton of ads from blogger.com and the chance of getting your blog turned off can be higher. That’s why it is best for you to own a domain name and hosting that you full control over.

A domain name could cost you up to $14.99 per year while hosting a website per month could cost you up to $10.

I know this is a lot of money for a beginner, that’s why I have a special deal for you.

You wanna have a website that can load under 1 second, this could mean that you have a faster website than 96% of the websites online. There’ve been some studies done that if a website loads over 3 seconds, visitors leave the site. That’s why I recommend BlueHost to my readers because of their fast and reliable services and of course their 24/7 customer support.

For $2.95 per month, you will get a FREE domain name, free SSL certificate on that domain (protecting the data between visitor and user), phenomenal security features with 24/7 available customer support and 60% OFF on hosting. This deal is phenomenal and you don’t want to miss it.

4. Installing WordPress on your blog

Worth to mention that the script you gonna use on your tech blog officially recommends using BlueHost for a hosting provider. The script is called WordPress.org.

For having a beginner-friendly dashboard and easy to be navigated within we recommend using script called WordPress.org (different than wordpress.com). This is the backend of the website where you can edit your design, install plugins, writing posts and etc.

If you get stuck somehow, you can always reach to BlueHost customer support to install WordPress for your blog, but installing WordPress takes less than a minute and with BlueHost 1-click installers.

After you installed WordPress, you may wonder how to log in.

This is pretty easy, just go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin and the screen below will pop up.

WordPress login

You type your username and password and now you can easily see the Dashboard. The first thing I recommend doing is to go to Settings -> Permalinks.

permalinks

Select “Post name” and save the changes. This makes it easier for your visitors to find your posts on the search engines and also looks cleaner.

Example: yourdomain.com/tech-today is much better than yourdomain.com/2025/01/01/tech-today.

5. Install Plugins

You need a few plugins that will help your website to perform at best on the search engines. Be careful not to overdo it.

When you are in your dashboard, on the left you will see Plugins, then point at them and click Add New.

This is the place to install plugins and activate them.

Couple plugins that I recommend:

  • Yoast SEO: This is a plugin that you must have installed if you want to get a better understanding of your blog posts where you can get help for your on-page SEO for your website, you can easily create sitemap.xml for the search console for Google. This way your website will be recognized faster.
  • WordFence: This is a security plugin that protects you from spammers that want to access your website.
  • Social Pug: Plugin to allow your visitors to share your post on their favorite social media like Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.
  • Classic Editor: I recommend this to my visitors because it is much easier and better to look to write than the new style of WordPress.
  • WP Content Copy & Protection: This plugin protects your content and your visitors can steal it and put it on their websites.
  • Contact Form 7 or WP Forms: You can choose one to install, this can help your customer to reach you and contact you easier.
  • W3 Total Cache: This is one plugin that will allow your website to load faster by offloading some of the work that the hosting server needs to do.

All of the above plugins are free, but some of them have paid versions. Once your tech blogger is profitable I recommend updating to the paid versions.

6. WordPress Theme

You want to make your blog looking good, this will allow visitors to navigate much easier on the posts and will keep them engaged.

You have two options for choosing a theme:

  • Free Themes: Go to Appearance -> Themes -> Add New, click on popular and find a theme that you want your blog to look like, then just install it. These themes work really good, but once your blog gets popular and profitable, I recommend updating the theme to the PRO version or search for paid themes.
  • Paid Themes: These themes can make your blog looking unique, the paid themes are updated regularly from their developers and you will get the best experience with them. The paid themes depending on their features can cost you around $50-100. They are super SEO friendly and easy to manage. I only recommend using StudioPress WordPress premium themes, the best thems for bloggers.

7. Getting a Logo or Header

Having a good looking logo can make you stand out from the crowd. You have two options to do it yourself or outsource it to someone else to do it. It is not a costly option for beginners and you can get a decent looking logo for less than $20.

  • Canva: this website is free to use, and you can create a logo for your website, blog post images, facebook covers or youtube channel art, I use it daily for my websites.
  • Fiverr: If you don’t have designing skills, I highly recommend outsourcing it to someone on Fiverr, they have great logo designers that are cheap, but you want to look for revisions if you are not happy with your logo, they will easily change it until you like it.

8. Pages

You want to have a few pages on your blog. On these pages, you can tell your story on why you wanted to start a tech blog or how your visitors can contact you.

Pages to help your visitors:

  • About page: telling your story and why you started a tech blog.
  • Contact page: the above plugins can help you get it done so your visitors can reach you for any collaborations in the future.
  • Copyright page: explaining that your content is 100% yours and it is protected!

9. How to Start a Tech Blog with Quality

These days you need to have content that your visitors will engage and read. Google loves rich content that is filled with images and it is high quality. It is better to have 1000 words article that people can learn something or how to fix something rather than having 200 words post. You will have a better chance of ranking on Google with higher quality content.

That’s why it is recommended to have Yoast SEO to give you an idea of what you can improve your posts. You need to put work in writing quality posts.

10. What social media to involve with your blog?

This can be amazing if you want to bring different audiences on your tech blog. I recommend having a few platforms to help you get more exposure on social media like:

  • Instagram: Everybody uses this platform today, whatever you do on it checking with friends or for business purposes you are on it. It is easy to bring traffic on it, post a couple of viral photos or videos and your account will grow over time. Put your website like in the bio or tell your followers to swipe up for your latest post on your blog. You can automate all the work like posting photos or videos on Instagram beforehand. I use this scheduling app for my Instagram automation like reposts or DMs. Here are some tips on how to monetize Instagram.
  • YouTube: You can be very successful on YouTube, one benefit is that you can create a video that can stay forever on YouTube and can bring traffic daily. Videos are highly engaging and you need to take advantage of it.
  • Pinterest: This platform is much easier to have your pins go viral and can bring you huge traffic really easy.

11. Monetizing your personal Tech Blog

starting a tech blog

Once you have everything set-up correctly you can start thinking about monetizing your blog. There are a lot of things that you can do to monetize your blog even if you have a few visitors coming in. You can build a very lucrative tech blogger for yourself if you are persistent and don’t give up. These are some of the methods you can monetize your blog:

Affiliate Marketing:

One of the easiest ways to monetize your tech blog, you can recommend someone else’s products and get a commission. There are a ton of physical or digital products that offer commissions. You can those products on ClickBank.

Patreon:

This is really nice way to make extra money from your blog. I do recommend taking Patreon seriously and providing extra value for your Patrons, once you build some following and people love your content they will not mind spending $2-3 per month for their favorite tech blogger.

Amazon Associates:

Great method because you can make a blog post about reviewing the new tech products that are on amazon. You will sign up for amazon associates and you can make posts on your blog or reviewing products on amazon or let’s say top 5 tech smartwatches and if your readers buy the watch from Amazon, you will get a commission at no extra costs for your reader.

Google Adsense:

This is a method that you can easily implement it on your blog. You can sign up for the Google Adsense account and put one banner on the first paragraph on your posts. You can install the Quick Adsense plugin to manage your ads better. Once you have 10k visitors per month, I recommend switching over to Ezoic or Mediavine. You will earn 10x on what you earn with Google Adsense. To get approved on Ezoic or Mediavine you need 10k visitors or more.

How to Start a Tech Blog – Conclusion

If you want to be successful in blogging about technology, you need to put steady content. Blogging is not a sprint, it is a marathon and you need to post good content that will stay relevant. It is better to post once a week for a year than post each day for a month and forget about the blog. Consistency is key!

Do not think that there are a ton of bloggers online or it is too late to tap into blogging. That is a weak mentality, you should change your mindset and think positive.

Your blog will be unique and will tell a different story than your competition. That’s why you will stand out from the crowd. That’s the mentality you should have.

It can be one of the best things you did online, you can work on your own time and schedule.

Once your tech blogger gets a bit of authority in Google’s eyes, ranking for low-competition keywords will be much easier.

Don’t be afraid so go ahead and make the jump.
